Meet Conner!
Conner is one of those rare people who just naturally notices others and makes a difference in their day. Every time he sees Sarah Ava, he goes out of his way to greet her. He talks to her gently, treats her like any other person, and never seems to mind that she doesn’t respond back. Her sweet, expressive face shows exactly how she feels about him, and it’s clear their small connection means a lot to both of them.

A few weeks ago, we were at Walmart, and suddenly Ava became overwhelmed. The bright lights, the noise, and the crowded aisles triggered a meltdown, and she started screaming in distress. My heart raced—I felt frantic on the inside. I had to protect her while juggling the checkout, bagging groceries, paying the cashier, and keeping her from running off. People were staring, and I quietly prayed, “Please help us, Jesus.”

That’s when Conner stepped in. He calmly came over, held Ava’s hand, and reassured us both, repeating over and over that everything was going to be okay. His kindness and confidence immediately began to calm her down. I was fighting back tears, overwhelmed by the compassion of this young man I barely knew.

Once Ava was settled, Conner went a step further. He helped me by placing my groceries in the buggy so I could finish paying. He held Ava’s hand as I pushed the cart to the car, and even helped load the groceries inside. His thoughtfulness and care turned a stressful moment into a manageable—and even touching—experience.

Conner is a real-life hero. He reminds us that small acts of kindness can make a huge difference, especially for families navigating daily challenges. If you ever see this young man at Walmart, please take a moment to let him know the wonderful job he’s doing.
